Can you tell.....it's been a little busy?

All right, as you can see from the date of my last post, it has been a little busy. The great news is that I am now focused full-time on my art. I plan to keep the blog updated, so visit often to see work in progress, upcoming shows and other things I am working on. You can also keep tabs through my website and through facebook.
Be back soon,

This piece is titled "Winter Song". It reminds me of the winter walks I have taken outside of my Aunt's village in Germany. The depth and intensity is achieved through carving into the layered wax.
This piece is titled "Squall". I'm using a lighter hand with the color and a more abstract style.
This piece is titled "Harmony". This is done in my landscape style with layering of color and using a heat torch to move the wax to find the subject.

I am very excited about an Art Exhibition that I have been invited to participate in. It is the third installment of the Irvington Invitational Art Exhibition in Northeast Portland curated by Thomas Malcom Cook, a local artist himself.

The Irvington Invitational Art Exhibition was established in 2007 with the goal of giving artists underrepresented by the gallery system a venue to express their artistic visions.

Artists showing will be:

Adam Arms
Amy K Drew
Julie Eggers
Nicholas Goodman
Bunny Huggins
Karl Kaiser
Susanne Kelly
JoAnn LeVee
Kay Myers
Suzanne Preble
Jim Richards
Carrie von Kiel

Opening Reception - Friday, July 31st, 7pm-10pm
Showing - Saturday, August 1st, 10am-4pm
Portland, OR 97212
(on the corner of 11th and Brazee).

I will be there during the entire showing, so stop by if you have a chance.

This is a piece hanging currently at the church called "The Grove". This was an interesting piece to do, lots of layers and experimenting with different instruments for carving.

I'm a member of the local chapter of IEA and we meet once a month to discuss upcoming shows, get feedback on our work and do projects. This month we were all supposed to do something relating to dessert. I decided to make this piece entirely out of wax (except for the inside of the cupcake, which is a block of wood). It turned out to be really fun to make and has me thinking of other ways I could use this concept. The plate is wax as well.
